WHAT IS RICHLITE?
THE MATERIAL THAT OUTLASTS EVERYTHING ELSE
Richlite is a premium paper composite material known for its durability, sustainability, and versatility. Fabricated under heat and pressure using FSC-certified recycled paper, Richlite surfaces provide a long-lasting alternative to stone, plastic, and traditional solid-surface materials. At Gauntt Board Company, we fabricate and install Richlite surfaces for Kansas City homes, restaurants, and commercial environments.

HOW IS RICHLITE MADE?
STRENGTH MEETS SUBSTAINABILITY
Layers of high-quality engineered paper are infused with thermosetting resin before they are cut to length and laid up by hand. Richlite's signature surface texture comes from the natural variation in how the fibers lay within the paper. Each sheet is carefully stacked, alternating the direction of the paper for ultimate balance and stability. The stacks are pressed under heat and pressure, which bonds the layers of paper together and cures the product. The panels are then slowly cooled to produce a solid and stable sheet material.

SOURCE
Recycled paper fiber sourced from FSC-certified mills. Rainier Richlite Co. in Tacoma, WA has run this process since 1943.
04
COOL & SHEET
Panels are slowly cooled to produce a stable, solid sheet. Consistent from face to core — no veneers, no coatings, no surprises at the edge.
02
SATURATION
Layers of engineered paper are saturated with thermosetting resin. Each sheet is handled by hand for precise, even coverage.

GBC FABRICATION
Raw sheet arrives at our Mission, KS shop. CNC-cut to your spec — any shape, dimension, edge profile. NSF-verified before it leaves the building.
03
STACK & PRESS
Layers are stacked with alternating paper direction for balance and stability — then pressed under heat and pressure. The resin cures and bonds permanently.

SOMETHING BETTER
Richlite was developed in Tacoma, Washington in 1943 by Rainier Richlite Co. The process has remained the gold standard for paper-composite surfaces for over 80 years. Layers of FSC-certified recycled paper are saturated with thermosetting resin, stacked by hand, and compressed under high heat and pressure into a dense, non-porous panel.
The result is a material that performs like stone, machines like wood, and is certified for direct food contact. No veneers. No laminates. No surface coatings that wear away. What you see on the face runs identically through the center — cut it, rout it, profile it, drill it. Every edge looks finished.
GBC is the only Richlite fabricator and distributor in the Midwest. We source raw sheet stock direct from Rainier Richlite Co. in Tacoma and cut every board in our Mission, Kansas shop — 15 minutes outside Kansas City.
